Dataset Abstract

Data on sampled tree and shrub saplings from the beating tray collections. Beating tray approach enables to test to what extent woody plant diversity affects the abundance, species composition and diversity of herbivores (which might profit from better resource availability if they are generalist feeders) and predators (which might profit from higher structural diversity or better resource availability in more plant diverse plots), and whether the top-down impact of predators on herbivores increases with plant diversity.

Dataset Design

Three sampling campaigns (fall 2011, spring 2012, summer 2012); 25 randomly selected tree and shrub saplings along transect cutting through each CSP; arthropods from each sapling knocked down by beating tree and collecting on beating tray; arthropods identified in the lab to higher taxa and, if possible, morpospecies.
