Dataset Abstract

This dataset represents the accumulated climate data from HOBO loggers in the VIP plots on Site A and Site B. These sensors were brought out there in the framework of the Decomposcape Experiment that aims at determining the effect of local climate on wood and leaf litter decomposition (SP5e and SP10e); Climate Data is generally hosted by Z1e/c. The Excel Dataset contains the aggregated data from 2011 to 2014. We computed min mean and max values for relative humidity and temperature. Moreover the dataset contains the respective amplitudes of the climate data aggregated to mean daily amplitude and mean yearly amplitudeof the mentioned climate variables. The R script that was used to aggregate the climate data as well as the original data as well as the original data are attached as freeformat files to this dataset.

Dataset Design

Climate data was assessed in all VIPs on both sites

Spatial Extent

Climate data loggers were set up in the field at the VIP plots of Site A and B from 2011 to 2014. We used HOBO U23 Pro v2 loggers (Onset Corporation, Bourne USA). Loggers were set to record values every 5 min from 2011 to 2012. The interval was then changed to every 30 min and this interval was kept until the end of the recording period in 2014. To protect the loggers from direct sunlight, rain, wetting and intense wind turbulences, every logger was shielded with a custom-made metal shield placed on a stick approx 5cm above the sensor. In every plot, the sensors were placed between tree individuals X05/X06;Y12/Y13 (see general information on planting schemes of the plots in the BEF-China Main Experiment).
