Dataset Abstract

Plant traits are aggregated from the datasets "Decomposition rates of wood in the Comparative Study plots, debris items with soil contacts in coarse mesh nets", "Leaf litter decomposition in Gutianshan: decomposition rates (k-values)", "Aggregated xylem traits of tree species in the CSPs", "Leaf toughness from individual trees in the Gutianshan Nature Reserve", "Leaf traits and chemicals from individual trees in the Gutianshan Nature Reserve", "Root Carbon (C) and Nitrogen (N) Concentration of 124 tree and shrub species in the CSPs", "Wood density of tree species in the CSPs", "Wood mechanics from: Research Institute of Wood Industry; Chinese Academy of Forestry (1982) Physical and Mechanical Properties of Primary Tree Species in China. Beijing, China: Chinese Forestry Press."

Data Analysis

The paper proposal "Leaf decomposition and wood decomposition CSPs" contains the script that created this synthesis dataset. I used mice() from the R package mice to impute a complete trait matrix, but due to missing values this works only for a subset of this dataset.

Mean vessel diameter. Constructed from tan_diam and r_tan_diam from the xylem traits file. This is because the ring porousity is characterized by two different sizes of vessels, but the mean vessel size should be of all vessels.
